What is An Online Business Manager?

As your online business grows, you will start to reach your maximum capacity, some balls may begin to drop and you may find yourself lacking in experience (for eg, tech, systems or launch management) that are the missing pieces to take your business to the next level. This is where an Online Business Manager (OBM) comes in.

An OBM / online business manager is an experienced professional who helps online businesses manage their operations, launches, projects, marketing strategy and teams from a strategic perspective. They are responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of a business's day-to-day operations , ensuring that everything runs smoothly and efficiently.

Here are 8 areas of your business an OBM can manage for you:

1. Launch Management

An OBM can develop and execute a launch strategy for your course launch or coaching program launch. This may include coordinating the email marketing, social media advertising, content marketing, and Facebook advertising of your launch. The OBM oversees the project management of the course launch, ensuring that all tasks are completed on time. They create a project plan with specific milestones and deadlines, assign tasks to team members, and monitor progress.

The OBM manages the launch team, which may include a social media manager, graphic designer, copywriter, ad manager, sales teach and customer support. They ensure that everyone is working towards the same goals, blockers to tasks are identified and that tasks are delegated efficiently.

An OBM evaluates the existing business processes and identifies areas that can be streamlined or improved. They develop strategies to optimise workflows and ensure that everything runs efficiently.

4. Project management

An OBM is responsible for overseeing and managing projects running in your business at one time.

5. Team management

An OBM manages the team and ensures that everyone is working towards the same goals. They provide guidance and support to team members, delegate tasks, and ensure that everyone is working efficiently.

6. Develops and implements strategies

An OBM can help you take an idea from idea to completion - perfect for the visionary who has light bulb moments.

7. Improves profitability

An OBM helps businesses improve profitability by identifying ways to reduce costs, increase revenue, and improve efficiency.

8. Manages your affiliate partners

Your OBM can support you to recruit, keep track, set-up affiliate software and manage your affiliate partner program.

Here are some things that an OBM does not do:

  • Administrative tasks:

An OBM does not handle administrative tasks such as dairy management, scheduling, responding to emails, 1 or booking travel. These tasks are usually handled by a virtual assistant.

  • Social media management:

An OBM may develop a social media strategy, but they typically do not manage social media accounts on a day-to-day basis. This is usually done by a social media manager.

  • Graphic design:

An OBM may oversee graphic design and development of graphics for social and advertising, but they do not typically do this work themselves.

Online Business Manager vs VA

So how does an OBM differ from a virtual assistant (VA)?

While both roles involve managing tasks and projects, there are some key differences.

A VA typically handles administrative tasks and provides support to the business owner. They may handle tasks such as scheduling, data entry, and responding to emails.

An OBM, on the other hand, is responsible for managing the entire business. They oversee projects, manage teams, and develop strategies to achieve business goals.

To summarise, an OBM plays a critical role in managing and growing an online business. They help streamline processes, manage projects and teams, and develop strategies to improve profitability.

While they may work alongside virtual assistants and other team members, they play a unique role in managing the overall business strategy.

An Online Business Manager (OBM) can be an essential asset when launching a course for an online business. The OBM's role is to oversee the entire process, from planning to execution and monitoring, ensuring that the launch runs smoothly and achieves the desired results.
